About the event
The Soldier’s Tale, composed by Igor Stravinsky, is a theatrical work that blends music, narration, and dance. It tells the story of a soldier who trades his violin to the Devil in exchange for wealth, only to discover that material success cannot replace his lost identity and inner peace. Both darkly humorous and morally sharp, the piece explores themes of temptation, greed, and the true cost of one’s choices. In Ludensemble’s performance of The Soldier’s Tale, music, spoken word, and moving image come together. The narrator is Kaspar Velberg (Tallinn City Theatre), performing the work in the Estonian translation by Häidi Kolle. The visual dimension is created by Tõnis Jürgens, whose kinetoscope-inspired moving imagery accompanies the music and text, adding a distinctive visual layer to the performance.
